Over 40 years ago, we ventured out with a first journey to meet our parents in Colorado and South Dakota. The next year, we travelled across the Appalachian Mountains to a new Army duty station. We then were assigned to southern Germany for four years, where we:
We took advantage of the opportunities presented. When Jane was assigned to Germany for four years, our first summer, we toured Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, where Jane’s grandfather was born. The next summer, we drove across southern France to the Iberian Peninsula, where our van broke down and was repatriated to Germany by ADAC (the German automobile club). Our final summer, Don’s parents visited for a “If This is Tuesday, It Must be Belgium!” eight-passenger van adventure along the Rhine River; through the Belgian and Dutch lowlands; across the English Channel by hovercraft to the famous White Cliffs of Dover; on the "wrong side of the road" to London; by overnight ferry to Paris; before flying out from Frankfurt, Germany.
We have been on road trips into all fifty states, into several Canadian provinces, through much of Europe, and into one Mexican state. Our cruises have crossed the Drake Passage from Argentina to Antarctica, the Panama Canal from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Eastern Mediterranean, Adriatic, Ionian, Aegean, and Black Seas. Moss does not grow under our feet.
In June, 2023, we begin a yearlong "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," adventure to Saudi Arabia, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, Australia, and several Pacific Island countries. You are invited to join us on this journey via our 4 Hemispheres Adventure blog.
